What Role Does Media Play?

Media plays a big part in all of our lives. Everyday we use social media, news sources, and many other media outlets to get information we need. How way we get our news, media’s role is a day to day routine for everyone in society.

The biggest problem with the media today is that it controls the narrative. We sometimes do not know the truth because people choose not to release it for reasons that compromise their agenda. If the media is trying to control a story and there is information that may contradict, they “spin” the news to maintain that control.

This is most prevalent in political news and media. I personally do not affiliate myself with either party, but one example of this media spin pertains to a comment Joe Biden said in an interview. What he said made him look bad in the eyes of the public, but the media took control and left out the pieces of his quote that did not sound bad.

I would like to work in the sports field, and communicating through media outlets is very prevalent. The biggest thing for me about media is to keep it honest and true to its word, in today’s culture unfortunately, that is not the case. Our culture is in a strange time of not knowing the complete truth because of how the media “spins” their stories, we should always be aware of this and use unbiased news sources before we choose what side to be on.
